The FSR (Force Sensitive Resistor) is a resistive sensor designed to detect force or pressure applied to its sensing surface.
This version features a 4 mm sensing area and a medium force range of 1 to 15 kg, allowing changes in applied force to be detected within this range.
The sensor works by changing its electrical resistance according to the applied force. As the applied force increases, the sensor resistance decreases. This change can be read by an electronic circuit and converted into an analog measurement.
It is a simple and compact sensor suitable for applications where force or pressure changes need to be detected rather than highly accurate weight measurements.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Diameter | 4 mm |
| Force range | 1 to 15 kg |
| Output type | Analog / resistive |
| Operation | Resistance changes with applied force |
| Force/resistance relationship | Higher force → lower resistance |
| Technology | Force-sensitive resistive film |
The 1 to 15 kg range and 4 mm format correspond specifically to the supplier's “4mm medium range” version.
The sensor acts as a force-controlled variable resistor.
With little or no pressure applied, the sensor has a high resistance. As force is applied to the sensing area, its resistance progressively decreases.
For use with a microcontroller, the FSR can be incorporated into a voltage divider circuit and the resulting voltage can be read through an analog input.
Note: FSR sensors do not have a perfectly linear response, so they are generally better suited for force/pressure detection and relative measurements than for high-precision weight measurement.
