The ADS1220 24-Bit ADC Module is a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter module designed for applications requiring precise analog measurements, low power consumption and flexible signal conditioning.
Based on the ADS1220, the module uses a 24-bit Delta-Sigma (ΔΣ) conversion architecture and provides up to 4 multiplexed analog inputs, supporting both differential and single-ended measurements.
The integrated programmable gain amplifier (PGA) provides selectable gains from 1× to 128×, making the module particularly suitable for low-level signals generated by sensors. The integrated PGA allows small analog signals to be amplified before conversion, reducing the need for external amplification circuitry in many applications.
The ADS1220 supports conversion rates of up to 2 kSPS, allowing the user to select different operating configurations according to the required speed, resolution and power consumption.
The device also features digital filtering and simultaneous 50 Hz and 60 Hz rejection at 20 SPS, making it suitable for precision instrumentation and measurement applications.
Additional integrated features include an internal voltage reference, support for an external reference, two programmable excitation current sources (IDACs) and an internal temperature sensor.
Communication with the host microcontroller is performed through a SPI interface, making the module suitable for platforms such as Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, Teensy and other SPI-compatible microcontrollers.

One of the main advantages of the ADS1220 is its ability to interface with low-level sensor signals.
The programmable PGA allows the gain to be selected according to the signal level, while the differential inputs are suitable for applications such as Wheatstone bridges, load cells and strain gauges.
The integrated IDAC current sources can also be used to provide excitation for sensors such as RTDs, PT100 and PT1000, helping simplify the overall measurement circuit.
The ADS1220 is designed for low-power data acquisition applications.
The IC has a typical power consumption of approximately 1.4 mW and provides operating modes that can reduce power consumption when continuous conversion is not required.
This makes the module suitable for:
The combination of 24-bit resolution and the integrated PGA provides high sensitivity for low-level analog signals.
Available gain settings include:
1× / 2× / 4× / 8× / 16× / 32× / 64× / 128×
This flexibility allows the module to be used with a wide range of sensors and analog signal levels.
The module can be integrated with systems providing SPI communication, including:
Electrical compatibility should always be verified for the specific development board and the exact module implementation.
